what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to give relief and removal of a huge variety of conditions. It is an altered state of awareness induced by relaxation.

It does not involve becoming unconscious or going to sleep. .  The deep relaxation works to calm the conscious mind so that it takes a less active role in your thinking process and your conscious mind takes a backseat to your subconscious mind.

This allows you and the therapist to utilise your subconscious mind - the powerhouse of your mind. You are fully aware of what is taking place at all times and cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do.

what does hypnosis feel like?

If you can imagine feeling totally relaxed with a heightened awareness of everything going on around you, this is what most people experience. Everyone can be hypnotised and you retain control at all times!  It is a wonderfully relaxing experience.

There are two types of hypnotherapy

There are two main ways of using the unconscious mind to bring about beneficial help.

suggestion hypnotherapy

Suggestions made to your unconscious mind are highly effective as they bypass the conscious mind and ideas which take root in your subconscious mind are discharged in activity or thought without conscious effort.   This type of therapy can give instant results for minor problems or short-term goals. For example, only one session with Penny is required to give up smoking! Weight loss is made easy as is pain relief and control.

'pure' hypno-analysis (analytical hypnotherapy)

Penny practices 'pure hypno-analysis' taught by IAH (The International Association of Hypnoanalysts) which is a very special type of hypnotherapy, and is one of the best methods in the world for treating emotional, psychological or anxiety-related problems. Analytical hypnotherapy is used for people suffering from anxiety, depression, phobias, panic attacks etc. This takes a few more sessions than suggestion therapy, and allows you to discover the cause and resolution of your current problems helping you to change your life signifcantly in a short space of time.  Suggestion therapy can be used in conjunction with analytical therapy.   If you just take away the symptoms the original cause is still there and will create new and different symptoms or the old ones will return again in the fullness of time.
